The Otafuku Sauce Production Facility transforms approximately 29,000 SF of an existing 51,000 SF building in Totowa, New Jersey, into a specialized food manufacturing facility. Building on Otafuku’s preliminary production concept, Cybul Architects developed a layout that integrates equipment, refrigerated storage, and processing areas within the existing building. The design organizes the movement of materials from receiving through storage, production, packaging, and shipping, with an emphasis on efficient workflow, cleanliness, and cold chain continuity. Production and refrigerated areas incorporate insulated metal panel walls and ceilings, protective concrete curbs with coved epoxy bases, and sloped concrete floors with stainless steel drains. Insulated cooler and freezer doors, along with fast acting roll-up doors where required, support access between temperature-controlled spaces. Washdown-compatible finishes and carefully detailed equipment interfaces support routine cleaning and maintenance. Working with the ownership team and engineering consultants, CA coordinated the architectural design with structural and mechanical requirements to adapt the existing space to Otafuku’s sauce production operations.
